Job

How to find a job !

First of all, you have to know that it is not easy to find a job in London, it acts to remain motivated throughout the trip ! Indeed, you must find an job for two good reasons: To earn money in order to eat and validate your training course !

In statistic there is a law which says that with a link of 6 persons (a friend of a friend of a friend ...6 times ) you could contact anybody in the world. So don't underestimate the power of fiendship. England is near France, I was surprise there are many French who know English people. Furthermore this way should limit problems with your job because someone is in the place that's a good guarantee to avoid a cancel and to be aware of the situation of the company.

Unfortunately everybody doesn't have a contact in London, that's why you have to find another way to find your Job. In English class you will work on your English CV and cover letter. Don't hesitate to send it or email form France to English company. Although that's not so easy to find reliable contacts form France you won't loose anything to try it.

If it works, you will have your job before coming in England and you may choose your flat not so far from your job. But the bad point of this way is time : if you find your job in May, there will be June, July and August before you come in England. During this time many things could happen like a cancel of the job. Moreover you can't go to the interview except if you go a week in London during the year.

It's difficult to negotiate jobs by email or phone. That's why many students prefer to search jobs when they are in England. You could go like the others at the beginning of September and try your chance. But if you accept to stay more than the others you should go to London before (like in August) to find your job, you will have 100 efreiens less than in September, that's a good advantage to find the best job before others arrive and take it.

To find a job while living in London, don't hesitate to do a lot of "Door-to-door", it may works ! Try using recruitment websites, like those in the bottom of this page. There is a lot of agencies too but they are generally not free (around 50 pounds).

During interviews, it's important to not be stressed and if you fail, it was a training for the next one ! Do not hesitate to prepare some basic answers to questions like "Why are you living in London actually ?", "How many time do you stay ?".

I know that's not good but a large majority of students had to lie to be employed. Indeed, employers will not hire someone for just a month, try to hide fact that you will stay 3 months only !

You have to know that in London jobs has quite good salary because of the price of life. To keep your work, just don't make big mistakes, but generally English workers are gently with student, especially when they are foreigners. In the company where I work peoples were nice and help me. It was the same situation, for many other students I spoke in London (from Efrei or other). So if you don't understand something don't hesitate to ask your colleague.

My job !

I was hired one month as a PHP/MySQL developer in a company of edition and production named Rila Publications. If you want, you can try to contact my manager Georgina, using my name, to find a job there ! We did a quite good job and I am sure she will hire some EFREI students again ! All contact information are on their website Rila.co.uk ! I earned around 200 pounds a week (without taxes) and worked around 30 hours a week. My main duties was to make a music website or to improve certain parts of this one.
